Family Navigator and Trainer
My name is Barbara Young and I am a Family Navigator and Trainer with UNCG’s Youth and Family Peer Support program. As a parent of children with social, emotional, behavioral challenges, I use my lived experiences emphasizing a System of Care approach to support other parents and caregivers as they navigate the mental health, child welfare, and juvenile justice systems. For more than 14 years, I have been sharing family perspectives and voices for systems-level change on a variety of state-level NCDHHS advisory boards and workgroups. I have a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia and am a nationally Certified Family Peer Specialist and a Level 3 Triple P Practitioner.
